About David

David Lafontaine is a versatile Canadian director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and coach with more than 20 years of experience in film, television, and theatre.

He began his career by founding and serving as Artistic Director of the award-winning Unit 102 Actors’ Company, where he earned critical acclaim for directing productions such as Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train by Stephen Adly Guirgis, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and Michael Ross Albert’s controversial Miss. His direction of Miss earned him the Critics’ Pick Award for Outstanding Direction.

In 2020, David co-founded Armenta Films with longtime creative partner Adam Belanger. Together, they wrote, produced, and co-directed their first feature film, A Breed Apart (2025), which received its world premiere in September of 2025 at Cinefest.

Beyond directing, David has worked extensively as a writer and story editor, with several television pilots under option and multiple feature films in development and production. His producing credits include Witches in the Woods (2019), which premiered at FrightFest in London.
